My Favorite Safe + Stylish Sippy Cup Options for Toddlers

Updated: Aug 6

I try to be intentional with every aspect of Porter’s health, and that includes ensuring he is drinking out of clean, non-toxic sippy cups. Because he drinks from a cup multiple times a day, every day, I knew I wanted to find the cleanest option possible.

Stainless steel and silicone are always my first choice because they are sturdy, and they don't contain any chemicals that could potentially get into his milk or water. Even though nearly all plastic sippy cups are now BPA-free, they still contain other chemicals with estrogenic activity. Some BPA-free cups even contain more estrogenic chemicals than plastic cups with BPA. Plastics, especially when heated, leak these estrogenic chemicals and they enter the body through liquids which were in contact with the plastic. These chemicals have the potential to pose health risks, such as weight gain and even cancer— so we steer clear of plastic and opt for stainless steel or silicone instead!

My favorite is stainless steel because these are also super easy to clean and can safely withstand high heat for sanitizing. They are also less likely to develop scratches that hold on to residue and odors. Small scratches, which plastic is known for, create minute spaces for bacteria to grow. You can also plainly see when the steel is clean or dirty, compared to plastic.

So, here are some of our favorite sippy cups we have either used or just know to be great non-toxic options. And the best part?? They aren't ugly!

Cupkin: I am in love with the neutral colors this company offers and the BEST part is that this brand is one of the only kids brands out there to have their cups 3rd party tested for lead and phthalates. I also like that the straws are silicone and not plastic. This is a big deal and a huge peace of mind!

Pura Kids: I love how versatile this cup is. It is a sippy cup that easily transforms into an infant bottle, straw bottle, sports bottle, or snack container! It's 100% plastic-free, dishwasher safe, and food-grade stainless steel. The medical-grade silicone contains no BPA, BPS, EA, PVC, phthalates, or other toxins and there is no internal lining to ensure nothing ever leaches into your beverage.

ThinkBaby: This was our first transition cup for Porter from a bottle. He did really well when we introduced this around 9 months. This cup is free of BPA, lead, PVC, nitrosamines, phthalates, PET, and biologically harmful chemicals.

Haakaa Cups: I love how versatile these cups are because they also double as a snack cup with two interchangeable lids. This cup would be great for a 6-12month old. It is made from 100% food-grade silicone and is BPA, PVC, and phthalate-free.

Bug + Bean Kids Cups: We have this cup for Porter's milk and love it! I think this is also a great transition cup from a bottle since it is so small and easy for little hands to grasp. It goes safely in a dishwasher and is made from 100% food-grade silicone which is BPA and phthalate-free.

NEUTBABY: These cups are so stinking cute! I love the neutral colors they come in and both the straw and cup are silicone making it a safe and stylish cup option for your little one!

Takeya: These super durable stainless steel kids cups come in some great neutral colors and keep your drinks cool in the summer! Takeya uses only food-grade, BPA-free, recyclable materials for their insulated water bottles.
